Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a time of major physiological, psychological, spiritual, emotional and structural change in a woman’s life.  Massage during pregnancy and labor not only makes a woman feel pampered, but offers many physical benefits as well.  Some of these benefits include: relaxation and stress reduction; emotional support in a time of incredible change; strengthening the immune system; stabilizing hormone levels and balancing the glandular system; increasing blood and lymph circulation; increasing muscle tone, creating greater flexibility and better preparation for birth.

Massage offers specific benefits for each trimester:

First Trimester

·       Relieves headaches

·       Alleviates morning sickness

·       Reduces fatigue

Second Trimester

·       Alleviates backaches

·       Relieves leg cramps

Third Trimester

·       Reduces swelling/edema

·       Relieves pains from varicosities

·       Enhances sleep

·       Prepares muscles for birth process

Postpartum massage helps to speed a woman’s recovery.  Some of the benefits include:  restoring the uterus to it’s normal size; alleviating muscle strain and soreness caused by labor and delivery; restoring tone to the muscular and connective tissue in the abdomen; and repositioning the pelvic musculature.  Massage during the postpartum period gives nurturing touch to a new mom during the physical and emotional stress of early motherhood and is a very successful component in reducing postpartum depression.
